The Other da Vinci Code
Artist-inventor Leonardo da Vinci was born out of wedlock to Ser Piero da Vinci, a Notary, and a peasant girl, Caterina, in 1542. Later in life he would safeguard his ideas with a special kind of shorthand he invented and by writing backwards; in order to read it the backward script the page would be held up to a mirror.
